“He’s Inside Me”: Queer Textualities and Spectatorships
in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge
in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge
At the time of its release, speculations about the infamous queer subtext of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (1985) plagued Jack Sholder’s much-despised continuation of Wes Craven’s 1984 fan favourite. Today, the film is celebrated by the queer community as a decisively queer text. Looking at the different textual and spectatorial angles at play in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, this talk will examine how the film can simultaneously function as one of the most hated horror sequels in cinema history and one of the gayest.

Girls Go Wild: Selling Jennifer’s Body
Jennifer’s Body belongs to Megan Fox--and Fox + Amanda Seyfried + Monsters + Gore was sold as a slick and sticky teenage boy’s wet nightmare. But director Karyn Kusuma and writer Diablo Cody made a film that explores the intensity of girls’ attachments despite the boys that exploit them. This lecture shifts the perspective on this recuperated classic 15 years on to explore how hell is BEING a teenage girl.
